It Will Pass

"I consider that the sufferings of this present time are as nothing compared with the glory to be revealed for us."

-Romans 8:18

We should always remember that there is more to our current pains and sorrows than we realize. When we do not understand the reason for the upsetting and painful aspects of life, we can become blinded by negativity and perpetually suffer in our sufferings. Furthermore, when such darkness fills our hearts and minds, we can forget that there are such greater realities waiting for us, but only in time. As time passes, that which blinded us from seeing beyond our pain will soon disappear, and we will eventually not only witness the Glory waiting for us after death, but will also become enlightened about why we suffered that which we did.

This painting attempts to showcase what may be taking place as time passes. This girl is enveloped in a murky, withered state because of her sufferings, and as a result, cannot see beyond her undesirable condition. Yet a working clock (depicting the passage of time) gradually draws away the petals of the bloody flowers that have blinded her. These petals drift away while gently lightening in color and forming the hours of the clock. The transition bleeds into a lighter world- the world to come- which is depicted with rosy shades, golden leaves, and light. Though this piece captures this gradual yet beautiful time of revelation in a single image, this transition may have actually occurred over many years- or even a lifetime.
