The Artist

Aveen Toma is a sacred artist who creates drawings and oil paintings that attempt to illustrate the truths of the Faith by making visible the invisible. Born on the Isle of Wight and growing up in South East England, Aveen has had such an interest and inclination towards art for as long as she can remember- being creative not only in constantly drawing whatever was in front of her, but also in making handmade cards and writing her own children stories. She and her family moved to the U.S. when she was 10 years old, and her love of creating art continued to grow exceedingly throughout the years, and she eventually studied Fine Art and Theology in college. Alongside her growth in art, she was also learning and understanding more about the Catholic Faith she was brought up in, and began to fall in love with the richness of the Faith and how much freedom, peace, and contentment it brought her in her own life.

In addition to painting and drawing, Aveen also enjoys giving presentations on Sacred Art, explaining how it is truly a “Visual Theology,” and teaching about the rich symbolism and beauty it offers. Not to mention, she loves hand lettering and reading about the fascinating significance of colors, symbols, and motifs found in sacred art throughout history. She has also had the wonderful opportunity to assist with several church beautification projects throughout the years. But above all, she loves deepening her knowledge of the Faith- not only for her own sake, but so that she can better illustrate the beauty and wholeness of Christianity in her art- to become more capable of translating the invisible into a tangible reality.

She currently works and resides in Scottsdale, Arizona, and you can find two of her original oil paintings displayed at The Sacred Art Gallery in Mesa.
