Not in Vain

"Your tears were collected by the angels and were placed in a golden chalice, and you will find them when you present yourself before God."

-St. Pio of Pietrelcina

We cry many tears during our lifetimes on earth, but those sincerely shed are not done so in vain. Sometimes, we wonder the point of the trials we face and whether there is even someone up there hearing our cries- yet not a single one of these tears goes unnoticed by God.

This drawing attempts to capture this moment of revelation. This soul has now come back in contact with her past tears and gazes with wonder at the golden pool they have turned into. The positioning of the hands display awe and enlightenment, as she now rejoices in recognizing that God had heard her cries and had even saved these tears. A chalice and the written quote appear as indelible illustrations on her wrists, not only representing the inherent presence of this comforting reality, but also explaining to her what is now taking place. The flowers that surface from the tears, as well as the gold in the water, showcase how the tears have transformed into something beautiful in Heaven: her mourning has turned into joy and comfort.
