We each have a garden within us that we must nurture, for it yearns to consume seeds and bear fruit; this inner garden is our soul. We ought to frequently plant "good seeds" in our minds and continually water this garden so as not to develop withered and lukewarm souls. We can strive to renew our minds by means of cleansing them of bad habits or any other "harmful seeds," and of remaining cautious of what we expose ourselves to. Our subsequent words and actions are born from the type of people we are, which develops from what we pour into our minds; therefore, constantly renewing our minds will help us not to conform to this age, but rather to better discern what is truly good, pleasing, and perfect.
This painting attempts to depict a "behind the scenes" of that inner garden. Simply, the water poured into the opened head of this girl represents the renewal of her mind (and that she is "open" to the idea of cleansing past ways). As a result of this "watering of the soul," she is nourished and produces good fruit, as indicated by the assortment of beautiful, vibrant flowers. Contrasting with the realism of the face and the transparent, soft flowers are the solid-colored shapes, which symbolize waves and the swirling movement of water. Further, the shapes surrounding the top of her head are rendered in the same colors as the flowers- presenting a connection between what is entering her mind and the flowers that are produced as a result. The reality of the patterns and norms of this age will be revealed for this girl, for her mind is being purified and her soul can now better witness and discern what is True.
